Connie makes a come back
Women often tell me that they are worried about not being “fit enough” to do our classes. I tell them that the reason you would come in the first place is to get fit. We do not assume that you are fit and all classes are structured to be challenging for ALL levels.
Connie was nervous about whether she would be able to keep up, having not done our sort of training for a long time. She did it though! She turned up and is now on her way to getting really fit.
I thought you might like to follow her story so I asked her a few questions.
Connie tell us a little about yourself
I live in Darlinghurst with my two adult chidren (York and Blaise) and husband Grant, we have enjoyed the area for over 20 years. We work for ourselves managing our commercial building that we lease out, prior to that I was a sales agent at McGrath Eastern Suburbs for a decade. Before that…My husband and I had a clothing label called Room Two Clothing which we ran for approximately 17 years manufacturing, wholesaling and retailing in the Miss Shop category.
What made you start working out at Dellafit?
I was really missing going to my pilates classes, however I was very reticent to go back indoors because of Covid. As I regularly walked Rushcutters Park I researched trainers in the park and came across Dellafit. I felt excited that I had found a new option for renewing my training and fitness goals.
Were you at all nervous or apprehensive before you started?
I was a little apprehensive as I was so out of practice for any type of training for about a year, I wasn’t sure if I was up to the task!
What was the first session like for you?
I really enjoyed it. I loved training in the park and I was quietly pleased with myself that I made it to the session. I was delighted with Della’s considered approach from the warm up to the well thought out cardio and strength combinations, core focus and relevant stretches, she puts together a great session and it’s different each time, you go at your own pace and Della inspires you to do your best.
What do you like about Dellafit?
Della of course, and all the lovely women that attend. The mix of cardio and strength, it’s really having an effect on my fitness. I know I wouldn’t be working out at this level by myself, so committing to these sessions is total self care for me. You know how it is, as women we often put others first, so its nice to look after yourself, you feel great from the endorphin rush afterwards.
What classes do you like best?
I love Della’s sets. I have also been to boxing (with my daughter) which was quite the workout and FUN! I tried Yin Yoga and it was a beautiful balance to the other classes…I didn’t realise how tight my hips were! The focus on breath is important, such a nice class to do for yourself, to slow down for a moment and experience the zen. I plan to keep going to all of these classes.
Do you have a goal?
I am definitely after weight loss and toning, although more importantly increasing my cardio fitness (I’ve learnt to run again!) and the weights/ kettlebells are perfect for strength training especially women my age that want to keep their bone density.
Anything else you would like to tell people about Dellafit?
I just think if you have been in a malaise regarding your fitness, I couldn’t think of a better way to start back. Each week I go, I experience another layer of feeling healthier and happier about myself.
Thanks Connie! The 8 week Challenge we have coming up will be a great way for Connie to measure just how fit she is now.
