It’s a tricky time for me right now…
I have been thinking a lot about the way that people tell me that they would love to start training but that :”It’s a tricky time right now..” or something similar. “I have a lot on at work at the moment”. “My son is having a hard time at school right now..” “I have a lot of other commitments at the moment”. “My mother is getting old and I need to concentrate on her just for a while..”
It occurs to me that for most people with jobs and/or kids and/or parents and/or pets and/or volunteer roles most times are going to be “tricky”. It is always going to be busy. There are always going to be things we need to do, people we need to look after, problems we need to solve and times when things happen out of the ordinary that we need to address urgently. The reality is that there is never going to be a time when all of these things disappear or calm down. What are we waiting for? Suddenly the kids will all be able to look after themselves, work will be quiet, all our jobs will get done – great – now I can start my exercise program. Let’s face it this is just not going to happen – at least in the foreseeable future. It’s always going to be a tricky time.
That’s why you have to find a way of training that works in with your real life – not something you can do when everything goes quiet. You have to make it work with your hectic life the way it is NOW. How? It goes back to an old theme of mine… You need to schedule it in just like an important meeting with a teacher or a doctor’s appointment. It has to be in your diary at the start of each week and you have to stick to it.
It’s amazing how everything else will still happen and things will still get done. In fact you will be calmer and more stress free and more effective in the other areas of your life as a result of getting that training time into your week. You need to realise that there is no perfect time… there is only NOW.
