Client profile – Meredith
When I started running training sessions in the park in 2013 some people expressed surprise when I told them that Meredith Phelps was one of my regulars. “Oh but she is already so fit!” “Are you sure the sessions are hard enough for her?” “She already does all that running” ….were some of the comments. It’s true Meredith was already very fit when she started coming. But she enjoyed having someone tell her to do push ups for 30 seconds followed by a run and a row and a plank. Read more about exactly what it is that keeps her coming below. There is something for everyone in our outdoor training – from the very fit to the person who has not trained for years. The sessions are tailored to challenge everyone… even Meredith.
Meet Meredith Phelps – a criminal defence barrister with a son still in primary school and a busy practice. Meredith who is in her 50s (yes – can you believe it!) is in fantastic shape and she looks fabulous in everything from a sharp work suit to a cotton play suit to a pair of skinny jeans. She trains most days mixing it up with different activities and makes it work with her busy life. She is also careful with what she eats but she certainly knows how to eat and drink up a storm, with an Italian husband (15 years her junior!). We asked lovely Meredith a few questions, hoping to gain more of an insight into just how she does it.
What do you like about Dellafit sessions in the park?
“Dellafit complements the other forms of regular exercise that I do (jogging; swimming and a little yoga). It tweaks parts of me that I didn’t know needed tweaking. I love the fact that it’s outdoors and by the water. The other women who exercise with Della are lovely company. And Della is herself inspiring.”
How do you fit exercise into your busy schedule?
“I try to go to the early morning Dellafit classes, before work and school start. I also swim when my son has swimming squad twice a week. When I’m not in court, I might jog around the Botanic Gardens, as a break from desk work. Or I’ll get up early. I try to exercise daily. It helps the mind, as well as the body.”
You are looking in top shape. Tell us about what you eat each day and how you approach nutrition.
“I think food should generally be eaten in as close to its original form as possible. I try to stick to three relatively simple meals a day, with not too much gluten or sugar. I love fruit, yoghurt, seeds or nuts and vegetables. Meat or fish usually features at the evening meal. However, I also love wine..and bread…..and cheese. In fact, I enjoy them immensely. So I try to have a couple of days a week where food, and especially alcohol, are consciously strictly limited. Nuts are a great temptation for me and too many at once plays havoc with my gut. So I like to eat activated nuts when possible, and not too many. Dining out is one of my great pleasures-but it’s best for figure (and finances) if we don’t do that too often. Actually, we haven’t done too well on that score at all lately…..”
Thanks Meredith for being a part of Dellafit. You are living proof that you don’t need think back to your 20s and sigh…you can be fitter and more fabulous than ever with a little hard work and careful attention to nutrition and consistent training.
