Celebrating the women who train at Dellafit
This Friday is International Women’s Day. YAY.
At Dellafit we believe that in most respects training for women is really no different that training for men. We do not give women light weights and less strenuous workouts because they are women.
We are aware though, that there are a few things that might have an impact on women’s training which do not affect men in the same way or at all.
Firstly, a lot of women we see at Dellafit have given birth to a child (or 2 or 3). This can mean that there is the potential for issues to do with pelvic floor or abdominal separation, even long after these women had children. There can also be issues to do with a woman’s monthly cycle and hormonal changes. There are also particular health issues concerning women such as osteoporosis. We have also had women recovering from breast cancer who have had to be careful with certain movements. At Dellafit we do not give specialized advice to women around these issues but what we can do is recognize where there might be an issue and make an appropriate referral to an expert such as a women’s physio or a doctor. We are also very happy to work around any limitations without making a big fuss. We listen to what you have been told by your expert.
Training with a group of women is awesome. Women “get” women. I want to introduce you to some of the women who train at Dellafit. I will use their initials. I wonder if they will recognize themselves?
