Davorka is focusing on comparing “myself to myself” and not to others
Davorka has been coming to Dellafit now for about 7 weeks. I thought it might be interesting for you to find out about what motivated her to join and how she experienced joining up and what she thinks of her new routine at Dellafit.
On my part I have seen Davorka go from being quite nervous and a bit down on herself to being much more confident and happy about how she is going. I wish Davorka every success because she works so hard at every session and puts her heart into everything she does. I am so happy she is a part of our group.
Davorka tell us a little about yourself
I was born in Sydney and I am 48 years of age. I have been active with exercise on several occasions, but not really consistently of late, or as regularly I would have liked to. I love animals but I don’t own one. I live in Elizabeth Bay, or Rushcutters Bay more precisely. I think I am on the border somewhere! I did work as an Administrative Assistant for some time but am not doing that now. I am focusing on looking after myself better in terms of health these days. I have lived here for about 13 years in my own studio. I do go for the occasional walk which is my other form of exercise.
What made you think about starting at Dellafit?
The reason why I started working out at Dellafit was because I felt it would be good to lose weight, but also to start feeling good about myself, and with a group of like-minded women outdoors near to where I live. This would eliminate most of the excuses, as I am only a few minutes away from the location of Dellafit classes. I felt it would be good to share with others my exercise journey and also with a lot of support, I could reach my goals, as well as enjoy the classes.
Did you feel nervous about starting with us?
Of course I was pretty apprehensive before I started, because I knew it would not be easy to start off with.
How was the first session?
The first session was really good, as I had a lot of energy I needed to get rid of but most of all, the support, friendly nature of everyone in the group and the trainer, the relaxed atmosphere and no pressure played a big role in enjoying that session.
What do you like about Dellafit?
I really like the fact that Dellafit is outdoors, as you breathe the fresh air in any of the classes. Plus, I like being with others who are doing the classes with me, and enjoy their company very much. Everyone is really nice.
The classes that I like the best are probably boxing and yoga, yoga when I can get round to it, as it’s early in the morning. But I really like all the classes overall, as they target different muscle groups and areas of the body, sometimes the classes are easier than others, some a little harder. It’s a good mix up. I just like feeling better after all the classes.
What is your goal?
My goal is to really lose quite some weight by the end of this year but also regain my strength, flexibility, tone, stamina and most of all my confidence, overall wellbeing, self esteem and self image.
What would you say to someone thinking about starting?
I really recommend Dellafit, as when you start, you really feel welcome by everyone and a part of what I would say is like a community of people aiming for their own goals with each other to support you. Everyone encourages each other to do the classes, we stay accountable with each other, the trainer also keeps tabs on us in relation to upcoming classes, making sure we are always informed for example, about any changes and also all the trainers are understanding, helpful and knowledgeable. So if you do have an injury or anything that poses a problem or issue, they are always ready to look after you in that regard.
I feel, what is beneficial in my case, that I am not comparing myself to others. This is a very important factor for me and I am so glad I found Dellafit to be able to concentrate on that. I just focus on comparing myself to myself.
