Building self esteem through little “wins”

I am in the business of building self esteem. Many of our clients go from being women who are worried about “not being fit enough” to being satisfied and happy and slightly proud of themselves. So in addition to keeping weight in check, bones healthy and improving their cardio vascular health, most women in our group are building their self esteem and experiencing feelings of well being.
The other day we did a workout that included some large numbers of repetitions for each of the exercises. The numbers were larger than the numbers we usually do. Most women struggled with the number of repetitions. But ultimately everyone got through them. I could feel the relief and happiness at the end. I could also see in a lot of the women a sense of achievement for having done the workout. People felt good about themselves.
The programming I do for Dellafit is not random. There is a reason behind every workout and there is also room for people to progress over time. The large number of repetitions and the long steady workout is great for building endurance and mental toughness. These 2 traits are vital to success in many areas of our lives.
There is no need to do a long tough workout every day. In fact this would be counter productive as our bodies need time to recover and make adaptations. But every now and then a test of our endurance and some high numbers provide a great challenge and the chance to test ourselves. When we complete the 40 reps we feel a little mini sense of being a “winner”. It is the little wins like this that can build us up and give us a sense of having succeeded.
One of the by products of a good training regime is the way it makes you feel about yourself. I know it might sometimes be considered to be a small win. But let’s take all the small wins!
