Team Dellafit does Mother’s Day Classic
“Let’s enter the Mother’s Day Classic – it’s a 4km run on Mother’s Day” I messaged the group some time in April. It was time for some of the members of the group to prove to themselves that they were now fit.
I was met with a few replies to the effect of “I can’t do that! That is too far for me. I haven’t trained – I won’t be able to do it!”. Even the quieter members who rarely complain responded with something along the lines of: “I will do it but I”m not sure I can run that far.”
Well guess what? Everyone – even the ones who didn’t think they could – did it. They all ran 4kms without stopping, without walking or giving up. There was a great sense of achievement among the group (and some of our kids!) when we collected our little pink medals at the end of the run.
The takeaway message from the success we achieved at the run is that by keeping fit and coming to training regularly in the park – you are in a position to take on all kinds of physical challenges. I knew that all of my members (with no current injuries) could run 4kms based on what I see them do in the park at every session. They have built up their fitness – some from a very low base. But they are now fit enough to start running and not stop until they cross the line.
I think its important to keep challenging yourself in life – do something that you have never seen yourself doing – it’s a good feeling when you take on something a little bit daunting and succeed. Way better than staying within your own comfort zone. So get off the couch and come and join us in the park!!!
