There are so many options these days if you want to get fit. I would like to encourage you if you haven’t already done so to consider training outdoors. The beauty of being outside is that you have some time in your day when you connect with the natural world. There is so much research that suggests that as humans we benefit when we are able to feel like we are part of the nature.
Those of you who have had kids will have noticed the way a baby can be crying and fractious at home – but take the baby outside and put them on a picnic mat under a tree and they become calm and happy. You see similar mood changes in older kids too when they run outside to play. As adults driving around in our cars or sitting in trains or buses, working in an office, relaxing in a cafe or at the movies or at home with netflix one aspect of our life that may not get enough time is time to be outside.
Some of the women who exercise with me in the park tell me that one of their biggest motivators to get to training is to be outside. It can often be spectacularly beautiful at 6am at Rushcutters Bay Park. It’s quiet and peaceful and as it get lighter the sights and sounds become bigger and brighter. By 9.15 am when we have our post drop off sessions the park is teeming with activity and the day is bright and beautiful, crisp and shiny. Even when we occasionally get very hot weather, there is usually a breeze by the water. When it is cold we can quickly get warm by moving around. Dog lovers too will know how much their dog loves to be outside and by the way well behaved dogs are welcome at Dellafit.
Being outside is good for the soul. So think about getting a little dose of outside every day. You will feel better.
