Finding fitness again and being the “new girl” at Dellafit
Lea Simpson recently joined Dellafit and is going gangbusters already. Before returning to Australia earlier this year Lea felt like she had lost her strength and fitness. Lea had previously been very fit. She is now finding fitness again. I asked her to share her experience.
First of all Lea can you tell us a little bit about yourself
I have just moved back to Australia after a few years overseas – and Della’s schedule makes jumping between timezones for Zooms really convenient. And the mix of women from the local area makes settling back into Sydney that much easier. I have two kids and a dog. The kids are usually still asleep until after my workouts, but the dog comes along.
Any background in sport or exercise?
I used to do a little crossfit, but I love to run. I have completed a few Tough Mudder races in both Australia and the US – they are excellent fun. However, my knees now creak – so I keep my long runs to a minimum and work out in the park instead.
What made you want to join Dellafit?
I have always preferred to work out outdoors – give me fresh air over an air conditioned gym any day! This is now all important in the age of an airborne pandemic. The beautiful location of Dellafit sessions at Rushcutters by the harbour, under the trees is not just convenient and COVID safe – it is idyllic.
Were you worried or nervous about being “fit enough”? Any other fears? Or preconceptions?
I was worried about getting back into fitness, 2020 was not a year of health for me. However, Della provides instruction for all exercises that allow you to tailor the workout to your level and abilities so you can push your limits without breaking them and yourself.
What was your first session at Dellafit like?
I got to test my boundaries and set some goals. Della kept things moving and I was sweating it out and headed home before I knew what hit me.
What have you been enjoying about the sessions?
I love being outside under the canopy leaves by the water. The schedule is ample, with early and mid morning sessions that work well for my erratic schedule. The Zoom options mean even when I travel I can still attend. And the park setting also means I have been taking my puppy (onleash), who therefore gets trained as well! I am finding fitness again.
What is your favourite exercise?
Fast moving sets with a mix of strength and cardio.
What is your goal?
Feel strong, and gain some definition.
What would you say to anyone contemplating starting at Dellafit?
Just do it! It is an excellent way to start your day and your new fit self. Della is a great instructor who will support your level, the fees for casual sessions and membership are fantastic and the location is perfect.
